Ram 1500, Chrysler Pacifica win Car and Driver 10Best Trucks and SUVs awards

The 2019 Ram 1500 and Chrysler Pacifica are winners of Car and Driver’s 10Best Trucks and SUVs awards.

The 1500 and Pacifica took home honors in the full-size pickup and van categories, respectively. This award marks the third year in a row Pacifica has been named a 10Best vehicle.

Here’s what Car and Driver had to say about the two winners:

Ram 1500

2019 Ram 1500 – 10Best Full-Size Pickup Truck

“In its comfort, composure, and capability, the Ram 1500 is America at its best. In the upper trims, Laramie Longhorn and Limited, the detailing and material richness exceed not only those of any other current pickup, but the standards established by any domestic vehicle in many decades.

“And the Ram’s rear suspension delivers a class-leading ride with or without a trailer, smoothing out high-frequency chatter and shrugging off big impacts with ease.”

Chrysler Pacifica

2019 Chrysler Pacifica – 10Best Van

“The Pacifica is the best minivan on sale today. Not only does it provide the most-comfortable way to haul the tribe across town and country, it corners with surprising confidence (for a one-box, that is) thanks to its refined chassis.

“And when equipped with class-exclusive Chrysler’s Stow ‘n Go seating (base and hybrid models lack this feature), it quickly converts from soccer-team shuttle to bathroom-remodeling supply hauler by allowing the second- and third-row seats to be folded into cubbies beneath the floor.”

Other FCA US LLC vehicles have been featured on the list in prior years. In addition to the Pacifica, the Alfa Romeo Giulia was crowned a 10Best Car as well as an Editors’ Choice vehicle in 2018.

How winners are determined

According to Car and Driver, the editorial staff spends a week examining all vehicle candidates across the spectrum. One portion involves rigorous driving tests on multiple types of terrain, feeling out aspects such as acceleration, handling, measuring blind spots, etc. Another includes trying out and testing new features and technologies.

Contenders are then evaluated against their peers on a 100-point scale based on three factors: how well it meets its intended purpose, how good a value the vehicle is and how compelling it is to operate.
